Sparrow tops 2CV thriller
Place changes aplenty in Sunday's frenetic 2CV race kept the outcome uncertain until Peter Sparrow was awarded victory on countback when the event was stopped following Edmund Drake-Lee's spectacular roll at Gerrards.
Sparrow's joy was Richard Dalton's misfortune, because the latter had led for most of the way. Crutially, though, the eventual winner was found to be ahead by a mere 0.17s as the pair completed their eighth laps.
So often did the two trade the lead in the second half of the race, while Royce Grey kept a close watching brief, that their final positions may well have been reversed had the finish line been elsewhere on the circuit.
Grey was later excluded from third place for careless driving, and in a farcical climax, Simon Pearson collided with the rescue vehicle attending Drake-Lee's crash.
