Mick Storey put in a superb effort at the Eurocar Battle of Oulton raceday to claim the first pole position of his 2CV racing career. Sharing the front row with him was Pete Sparrow, just two-tenths of a second slower, with ECAS team mates Richard Dalton and Roy Eastwood on the second row.
An intial good start by Storey was hampered by changing up into fourth gear instead of second, and he lost his lead before the first corner. The reigns were initially handed to Sparrow, and later to Dalton who began to carve out a substantial lead. Despite this Storey held on to come home in a magnificent 3rd place - a personal best. Dalton and Byatt claimed another Enduro Cup victory to add to those gained in France
A fuel leak problem spoiled any chances of Zoe Cardell building on her 5th place at Mondello. The bad luck continued for the Yellow Peril car of Neil Thompson and Christine Savage as a slow driver change mid way through the race saw them drop back and eventually finish 13th. After his recent run of success, Roger Lott and co-driver Colin Whitely had to content himself with a fifth place.
Ainslie Bousfield and Ed Mason's hopes of a good result were ended by Royce Grey nudging their car off the track after he had sustained a number of bumps from other drivers. A shower during the last lap of the race was to catch Grey out at Druids when the track became greasy.
Speaking of bumps, after wrecking their silver Murphedes car at Mondello Park, the Murphy brothers were back with their second car, which they promptly span in qualifying and hit the tyre barrier!
