A rain-soaked crowd watched Richard Dalton take his second victory of the season, with Pete Sparrow a good 18 seconds behind despite a superb start and initially leading the race.
Despite the awful weather conditions Dalton was able to keep within striking distance of Sparrow on the twisty welsh track before executing a classic slipstream/overtaking manoeuvre on the main straight. It was then Sparrow's turn to follow. It all came to nothing, though, when he was caught out at Beths and span off into the grass. Luckily, he was able to retain his second position.
Similar disappointment fell on Ainslie Bousfield at the same corner. After starting from the second row and keeping good pace near the front of the pack, it looked as if his much improved form was at last to be reflected in a good result. Unfortunately his spin left him left him at the back of the field, and collected Mick Storey into the bargain. Storey refused to be put down, and fought his way up into a creditable 14th.
The second group of Nick Woodward, Colin Whiteley and Martin Woodley provided some great entertainment, particularly at Abbots, where Woodward consistently put the back of his car onto the grass. Despite this, Whiteley and Woodley never quite got the opportunity to pass him.
All credit to Chris Cardell-Williams and Shaun Morris (making his welcome return to 2CV racing), both managing to make up six places on their grid positions.
