Snetterton 24 hour Race 30 April & 1 May 2006 - Friday Report

Friday 28th April mid-day report

There are 33 cars on the grid; most of the teams have arrived and are setting up for the race. The weather is breezy, cool and dry.

A poll carried out by 2cvtv showed the most teams believe that they will finish in the top five. Team Tigger (5) as the favourite, closely following by Tete Rouge (28) and of course Team Gadget Racing (4). However, the dark horse is Richard Dalton - will he, won't he race? If he does that might change the betting.

The hog for the hog roast has arrived accompanied by a very large number of buns, which will all disappear very quickly. Arrangements for the charity auction to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care are being made.

Today is a track day and is very busy, but there is time for the 2cv teams to practice, which gives the cars a useful last minute test and allows the rookie drivers to get used to the track (and the cars in many cases).

Everyone is very positive and looking forward to a great race. As ever, drivers who normally race other cars are joining in this unique opportunity to drive a classic and iconic car in a 24 hour race.

The 'build a race car from scratch' event has started. The Simply the Breast sale of T-shirts, scarves etc is progressing well.

The weather forecast is dry and cool.

The next report will be posted shortly.

Friday Evening at Snetterton 2006

The practice sessions ended in the afternoon; several cars were receiving attention.

The focus switched to getting ready for the evening's events. The Rocket Doggers (left) turned up in force.

The hog had been roasting all afternoon and by 8 p.m. it was pronounced ready. Wayne Cowling (right) did the honours with the carving knife and everyone congregated in the large marquee. The mountain of buns was reduced to a small pile and much beer was consumed.

The auction, which was organised to raise funds for Breast Cancer Car, started at 9.30 p.m. Geoff Archer, aided? by Pete Sparrow, played auctioneer encouraging people to part with their money. The lots included perfume, a flight in a helicopter, a fine collection of sprits, a case of wine, boxes of beer, various useful car parts, an evening out with Mick Storey and many more.

The raffle was drawn and five lucky teams won free petrol for the 24-hour race. We went to bed happy, but cold.

Overnight the clear skies clouded over and several sharp showers occurred. The day dawned cloudy, but dry. A full day's racing lay ahead and the Marshalls gathered for their briefing at the end of the pit lane.
