Saturday Morning Report

The first practice results were interesting (see table to the left).

After the overnight rain the morning has been dry, sunny and almost warm.

Most teams got stuck into the job of optimising the car to suit the circuit and the conditions.

The team feeding stations were established, many bacon butties will be consumed over the next three days.

The first mechanical casualty - a breathing tube.

Richard Dalton turned up with his ECAS Spares shop and in a switchround will be driving with Stingray 90.

Saturday Evening Report

It has been dry all day with a blustery wind, but as night approaches cloud is increasing and rain is forecast for later.

Throughout the day enthusiasm and anticipation has grown. Timings from the practice laps indicate that the pack is very close.

There has been a lot of preparation of the cars, as shown by the action stickers on the Tete Rouge car on the right.

Some work has been of a substantial nature. Brian Jordan of Car 99 Hooz Ray Sin said that they had "been changing engines like good 'uns" and that other people had been amazingly helpful and cooperative.

As ever, experienced drivers and mechanics like Pete Sparrow, Richard Dalton and Gary Adnitt have been happy to share their knowledge and help other teams.

Rick Meyers and Mark Fenner (right) had to do some serious work on the Racehire.com engines (70); the car is sponsored by Vegetarian Shoes of Brighton.

The presence of ECAS with a range of spares has been appreciated by many teams.

The first qualifying session has taken place and has thrown up a number of technical issues, which need to be resolved before the second qualifying session later when all drivers must drive at least three laps in the darkness.

The results of the session showed Tete Rouge 1 (28) in the lead with Team Gadget Racing (4) second followed by Team Tigger (5), Rocket Dog Racing (2), Tete Rouge 2 (13) and Tuquoise Tortoise (42).

Photographs of all the drivers and many of the mechanics are being collected and will be posted after the race.

On the left is a picture of the members of both of John Coyle's teams (31 Network Solutions and 32 AA Automotive).

Night Practice

The second qualifying session started at 21:30. All drivers had to participate by completing at least three full laps. This is to test all drivers at driving in the dark.

This is the only race in the 2CV Racing calendar when the cars are driven with all their lights on; the night-time session showed up some electrical problems plus one or two mechanical ones. The Racehire.com mechanics were busy until 1:30 in the morning, getting their problems sorted out.

Scottish driver Graham Harper, who has driven in all the 2cv 24-hour races at Snetterton and Mondello, has been unable to get his team here this year. He was allowed to qualify by driving in car 27 in this session and is hoping to pick up a drive tomorrow and keep his 100% record going.

The results of the second qualifying session showed Gadget Racing first, followed by Tete Rouge 1 (28), Team Tigger (5), Team Stingray 90 and Simply The Breast (14).
