Monday 1st May
The Wee Small Hours

The rain, which had started about 23:00 on Sunday fell during most of the night with some very heavy downpours. It started to ease at 10:00

There were many incidents in the night that we will report on more fully later, but it has certainly been a very interesting race so far.

Monday Morning

The weather took its toll and made the mechanics' jobs harder. There were a lot of incidents overnight, but after 18 hours all 33 cars were still in the race.

The pit wall crews soldiered on through the rain, at times it was very wet indeed. The abundance of water on the track caused problems; it got into the carburettor of Tete Rouge 1 (28) and into the fuel of Lucky Jon Racing (67).

Team Tigger (5) needed 3 engine changes (they only had two engines with them) and lost their leading position.

GMR (46) Richard Knight rolled the car and stopped upside-down, he had to get himself out of the car. Both car and driver are OK, Richard is very annoyed with himself, happily the car is back out racing again.

As a result of its early shunt with Team Tigger, Simply the Breast (14) had gearbox problems.

On the Racehire.com car (70) both shock absorbers went at the same time, they were replaced with second-hand ones and the car is going better. It also required a new alternator.

Hollis Motorsport (9) is making steady progress - they like the wet - but don't wish them good luck!

Rocket Dog (2) is recovering from its early setback, a spark plug jumped out during the night. The car is making its way up the field and is 5 seconds a lap faster than the car in front. Viv says a that top ten finish would be a good result.

Team Fine Print (97) has had a series of problems. The car dragged the battery along by its cables for two laps until it stopped. The transponder came off. A puncture was caused by a piece of metal from someone else's crank case. On a more postitive note, Said Baloui put in some good times during the night. Edd and Martin have been very consistent and Jez has been punching the holes and pulling them up the field.

Above: Racehire.com mechanics Rick Meyers (left) and Marc Fenner (right).

BRMs (68) driver Steve Cowell is having the time of his life. He hopes the rain keeps up because "I love it". The only problem they had during the night was when it started raining and the windscreen wipes blade flew off.

Four Lemons (60) Gordon Riseley said the car went off the track twice - for the same reason (we won't go into that) - with the result that the fuel pipe digs into the ground and comes off; this problem has been noted for next year. The electrics went during the nght and the fan came off (a restful night then!).

Tete Rouge were busy, both TR2 and 3 (cars 13 and 61) have had engine changes. TR2 needed a new rear wing. While TR1 (28) was in having a water-in-the-carburettor problem sorted, TR2 came in for a gear lever, returning a lap later for another one. TR1 driver Pete Sparrow says its a lottery.

Grease Monkey Racing (46) are catching up, they are 4 to 5 seconds a lap faster than the next two cars in front of them. "The car has been running well since Richard rolled it."

Mick Storey, a driver of Findlay's JD No. 7, said; "We got up to 9th place, a car spun in front of Mark and he hit it, breaking the track rod. Then the fan fell off. Later we were absolutely flying, doing really well until the float fell off the carburettor, fortunately it cut out at the end of Russell Bend and I was able to coast to the pit lane."

Gadget Racing (4) at 4 a.m. they put a new gearbox in; Wayne Cowling said; "We are jogging along nicely".

Hollis (9) had a bit of panel damage "Patrick got hit, or hit someone".

Red Nose Scotland (27) "Three wee things happened". The car went off into the tyre wall. Then the points 'happened'. The car bumped into one that had spun, the contact pushed the wing in and it broke the fuel pipe.

Network Solutions (31) driver Daniel Coyle has a sore back and a sore bum, but is really enjoying it. They got up to 16th place when the engine needed some adjustment.

Media Queens

Here's a photograph of Snetterton's two media queens!

from David Bain - (mechanicking - and mechanicking - and mechanicking - for car 76 - Ben Allan and company. We shared our squalid slum - sorry, state of the art pit garage - with Simply the Breast.)

Above: The pits wash room was was a good source of hand-reviving hot air.

Final Hours

Dry with a sunny outlook. Jon Twidale (Lucky Jon Racing 67) reports that you can go flat out on parts of the track and that the track is drying out.

David O'Keefe was having a blinding run in the Team Gadget Racing (4) car when the engine seized. It was quickly replaced and he re-joined the race. Wayne Cowling will take over for the final session.

Right and below: Where have Grease Monkey Racing (46) been? The 'love bites' on the car are evidence of that some close contact has taken place on the circuit.

Rocket Dog Racing (2) has reached the top ten and the team are very pleased with their progress, Andy Smith has just taken over from Pete Cardell-Williams.

Right: the Hollis's car (9) came in for its last fuel stop when they were in second place between Tete Rouge 1 and Boss Hog's Army. It's over to you Richard!

Four o'clock - and Tete Rouge 1 was first over the line, followed by Hollis Motorsport (9). Team Gadget Racing (4) overtook Boss Hogg's Army (50) on the last lap to snatch third place.

The photo on the left shows all three Tete Rouge cars crossing the line together.

There was sunshine for the podium, the winning teams were:-

6th Two Smoking Barrels (77)
5th Lucky Jon Racing (67)
4th Boss Hogg's Army (50)
3rd Gadget Racing (4)
2nd Hollis Motorsport (9)
1st Tete Rouge 1 (28)
