Ainslie Bousfield walked away from Lydden Hill with his first 2CV win tucked under his belt. It was a bruising race, and not every car went home unscathed.
The fun started in qualifying where Mick Storey and Steve Panas tangled after coming out of the last corner. Storey was able to continue the session, but Panas had his car towed into the paddock to begin frantic hours of work to repair it in time for the race. Despite his best efforts, the car limped along at the rear of the field during the race.
Bousfield dominated the start, and took a commanding lead. However, a dramatic accident involving Andrey Findlay and Paul Murphy, which saw Murphy flipping his car onto its roof, bringing out the red flags. To everyone's relief, Murphy walked away from the car with nothing but damaged pride, and the race was set for a restart with five laps to run.
John-Paul Wilkinson, eager for his second win of the season, got the jump on Bousfield at the green lights, but Bousfield soon fought back and took the lead. Wilkinson then had to contend with Colin Whiteley, and found himself back in third place. The battle for second went right to the last corner, where Wilkinson sneaked past Whiteley before the flag
