Mondello

ECAS 2CV Parts were crowned this year's champions at the Mondello 24 hour race finishing 7 laps ahead of Team Birraine (Car 4), headed by Mondello Park owner Martin Birraine, and 9 laps ahead of last year's winner Norrie Taylor's La Shark team (Car 27) . Royce Grey's Valeo team (Car 2) followed in 4th place followed by a second ECAS entry (Car 15).

In a race noted as much for its terrible weather as its competitive entries, the ECAS crew lead from start to finish on the revised Mondello track, its new surface offering plenty of grip and good opportunities to overtake.

The treacherous conditions meant that the RAC safety crew were kept busy through the night, and even at the end of the race which finished with the leaders coming home to take the Irish national flag behind the pace car.

There was racing right to the end. MRB Racing (Car 18) mad a valiant effort to hold off Cardell Racing (Car 23) for the last laps of the race for 7th place before they were passed and the pace car came out to frustrate any further attempts to race.

Where there was joy for some there was disappointment for other. The Lotus Motor Club entry (Car 5) was disqualified from its provisional 5th place following scrutineering. Alex Marr's team (Car 17) had 485 lap penalty added due to changed engine that failed to satisfy the officials. All hearts went out to the Bedwyn 2CV Club (Car 38) who's car caught fire 3 laps from the end and failed to finish. It received one of the loudest cheers, however, as it was brought home though the pits by the rescue team.

Another favourite with the crowd was the Collier Racing entry (Car 47), which had been virtually written off in a crash during the race, but managed to limp home in second gear at the tail end of the field.
